Last newsletter, I described the 4-year school review that Centenary SHS were undertaking as part of the normal school review cycle and how the resulting information will guide our strategic planning process for the second half of this year into the next 4-year cycle. Whilst the review report has not been finalised and sent to me yet, I am excited to share the very positive experience and comments that have been shared with me – reflecting the positive culture at Centenary SHS.
Parents/carers and community spoke in very positive terms about Centenary SHS. Some community members spoke about “a big heart”, “no-one falls through the gaps” and “opportunities found for every student”. The review team reported back very pleasing themes of Centenary SHS clearly being a high-achieving school, staff demonstrating unconditional positive regard towards students, and that Centenary SHS is known for excellence in a wide range of pursuits from academics to arts to sports. They mentioned some outstanding practices in differentiation and inclusion and various pathways for all student to achieve success.
With regard to staff, the themes from the Review Team were also amazing, with special mention made of the New and Beginning Teacher Program, supporting early career teachers and a disproportionate amount of Highly Accomplished and Lead teachers at the one school – a truly phenomenal achievement.
They have agreed with my own findings upon arriving three terms ago that there is a tangible feel of Centenary SHS being a happy, positive place for staff and students. Centenary SHS is a good school and people are proud to come to learn and work here. It is a high-achieving school, with a caring staff who ensure that students are succeeding. Some other heart-warming comments were that there was a “cultural maturity” to many of the school systems and processes and that there is a strong moral purpose existing in the school. There is a culture of learning and a culture of care. Staff emphasise commitment and wellbeing and a celebration of positive relationships. There are many curricular and extra-curricular programs that cater to all students. There is strong support of ALL students as well as a strong focus on growth for the staff.
When the review report is issued to the school for publication, I will share this through the school website and update you via the school newsletter to share that the report is available.
If you’re interested in joining our school’s P&C, please feel free to get in touch! The Centenary SHS P&C Association plays a vital role in promoting the interests of our school and facilitating its development and further improvement to achieve the best possible outcomes for our students. If you’d like to attend a P&C meeting to learn more, upcoming dates can be found on our school website’s calendar: https://centenaryshs.eq.edu.au/calendar-and-news/events-calendar. Meetings are typically held on the third Wednesday of the month.
I am immensely proud to be the Principal of Centenary SHS. I am excited to have been extended as acting Principal for the remainder of the year and hope to continue beyond that appointment in a permanent capacity. Finally, I wish all students and their families a restful holiday period and a look forward to Semester 2.

Relationships Education
A select group of students in Years 8, 9, 10 and 11 were invited to participate in workshops in Week 9 held by the team at Tru Relationships. The presenters worked with students to discuss healthy and safe behaviours to exhibit in relationships. The students learnt about healthy relationships and healthy behaviours in relationships. Students engaged in discussion about body parts – names and functions, body changes, healthy relationships and protectives behaviours.
The workshops were interactive and students were very engaged in the discussions having opportunities to ask questions and interact with peers.

Year 10 Work Experience
We are very fortunate to have Year 10 student, Leon, join our Inclusion Team this week for Work Experience. Throughout the week, Leon will help with administrative tasks, sort out cupboards and re-organise teaching spaces. Leon is also creating some signage for our department and helping-out in the canteen.

Making Each Day Count: A Holiday Message
There are 1440 minutes in each day. Once these minutes have passed, we don’t get them again. Fortunately, with every new day we are blessed with another 1440 minutes. It seems self-evident that we should make these minutes count. For our students, a school day would equate to 240 minutes. Around 540 minutes should be spent sleeping (if they are meeting national guidelines) , leaving 640 minutes for various pursuits such as study, hobbies, sport, friends, interests and family time.
Now that holidays are almost here, it is an opportunity to start thinking about how we will use our break time as we will now have an extra 240 minutes to use each day. After a busy and demanding term, we hope our students use the holidays to unwind, pursue their interests and hobbies and what brings them joy and return to Term 3 refreshed and rejuvenated.
We would like to offer a suggestion on how a mere investment of 10 minutes of time could make a difference to wellbeing. This is especially true if this 10-minute time is practiced everyday so it becomes habit and a part of our lifestyle. This type of daily intentional practice is what we aim to encourage in our HG curriculum through the PERMAH elements of Engagement, Meaning, Accomplishment and Health (Positive Mindset). We see this in the classroom in the form of positive primer and brain break activities.
There are two practices that we can work on that will help in making each day count: mindfulness and gratitude.
Mindfulness is about being in the present moment. It builds a sense of clarity and calm, and can be practiced through breathing exercises, meditation and paying attention to feelings and senses. As humans we struggle with this concept. We worry about the future and ruminate about the past but can only ever control what is happening in the present moment.
Gratitude is paying attention to what you have – as opposed to focussing on a lack of something. It is about being thankful for the little things in life and acknowledging what went well for you.
We challenge our students (and staff and parents/carers) to consider setting a gratitude and/or mindfulness 10-minute daily goal over the holidays. For example, a gratitude goal could be to write down three things we are thankful for each day. A mindfulness goal could be to find an activity that makes you calm and connected to the present moment. A walk in the mountains with all senses open and aware is a great way to be mindful and in touch with nature.
There are 1440 minutes in every day. We believe that spending just 10 minutes a day on practicing gratitude and mindfulness will help our young (and slightly older) people become happier, more resilient and more connected to make each day count.
We wish our students a happy and safe holiday.

Student Portal
All Year 12 students have now completed IA1 and IA2 assessment. IA1 results have been confirmed in most subjects and has been communicated to students. IA2 results will be confirmed by the QCAA and available early next term.
Students in Years 11 and 12 register with the QCAA to access their personal learning records. The Student Portal is a space where students can track their progress towards achieving their QCE as well as checking their banked results across Units 1, 2, 3 & 4.
The Student Portal is available from the myQCE page on the QCAA website: https://myqce.qcaa.qld.edu.au/. Please encourage your student to be checking their QCAA Student Learning Account for their banked learning toward the QCE.
Atomi
Year 12 students have the option to engage with the Atomi online program that provides syllabus specific lessons, videos and quizzes. This fantastic resource equips students with the extra skills and knowledge needed to undertake internal and external assessment. Atomi has been provided to all students studying General Subjects in Years 11 and 12, as well as those studying Essential English and Essential Mathematics. We strongly encourage students to be using this online tool as an extra support tool to consolidate content delivered in school.
Attendance
Attendance at school every day is critical to student success. Unless a student is ill and has provided sufficient evidence (i.e. medical certificate) or is undertaking structured learning outside of school (i.e. work experience, traineeship, university study etc.) they must be at school, every day.
At Centenary SHS, we are committed to taking a positive and supportive approach to help every student stay on track to achieve their QCE and future goals. Our skilled teaching staff deliver a rigorous and engaging curriculum that depends on student participation in the classroom to authenticate assessment tasks and provide feedback on their progress. As we approach the external exam period, consistent classroom engagement will be critical to Year 12 success.
For students who have temporarily lost their Good Standing due to low attendance, attending the STEP program (Wednesday, Lesson 4) is a proactive way to re-engage, access academic support, and work toward regaining full access to upcoming events and opportunities.
To regain Good Standing, students are required to do the following:
- attend at least 90% of timetabled classes (over a 10-week period)
- submit all assessment by due dates
- follow school rules and non-negotiables
- attend Lesson 4 STEP (provide a medical certificate if absent and/or contact the Deputy Principal)
- complete and return review form by requested date.
We encourage all families to support their student in maintaining Good Standing so they can fully participate in the exciting opportunities ahead.
Thank you for your continued support as we work together to ensure every student completes Year 12 with pride and success. If you have concerns about your student's attendance or would like to explore how we can best support them, please reach out – we are here to help.

INTERNATIONAL
It’s been a big term for our International Student Program. This term, we welcomed just one international student into Year 10, who will be studying with us through to Year 12. We also hosted a study tour from Taichung First Senior High School in Taiwan – this time it was a group of boys and one girl, and they bought lots of energy and enthusiasm to our school.
Our International Students have been involved in a mix of academic, cultural, and social activities this term. One of the highlights was Multicultural Week in Week 7, led by our 2025 International Captains and supported by the Student Forum. It was a great chance to celebrate the different cultures within our school through food, music, and fun activities — and most importantly, to bring everyone together.
Looking ahead to Term 3, there’s plenty to be excited about! We’ll be welcoming back Nodai No.1 High School from Japan for another study tour in August. Our Year 10 buddies will help make the group feel welcome through activities and time in class together. We’re also excited to welcome our first-ever day visit from Gifi Shotoku High School in Japan early in Term 3. Since our Year 10 students will be away on camp, our Year 9 students will get the chance to be buddies – this will be a great opportunity for them to share in a new experience. We’re also excited to host three new study abroad students from Germany and Norway, who will be with us for the next 12 months.
A big thank you to our amazing teachers, homestay families, and student buddies for all their support throughout the term. And a special shout-out to our English support staff who continue to help our students grow in confidence and succeed with their learning.
We’re looking forward to another exciting term in the International Student Program Hub.

Cross Country – Districts and Regionals
Early in Term 2, students that qualified through the school Cross Country went and competed in the Northern District Eagles Cross Country. 23 runners represented our school. The Northern Eagles District Cross Country event was run at Limestone Park in Ipswich which is a gruelling course. The students represented themselves and the school exceptionally well, displaying resilience, athleticism and lots of hard work. Against some very tough opposition, we had some outstanding results.
Congratulations to Rowan, Samuel, Isabelle and Liam for qualifying for the Northern District team who competed at the Met West event at John Paul College. These students ran exceptionally well with their results below.
Rowan – 2nd in the 2km MC event
Samuel – 11th in the 6km 17 Years Boys event

An extra special congratulations must go to:

Selection for the School Squad for Northern Eagles District Trials
Centenary SHS has a history of athletic excellence, with upwards of 50 students regularly earning selection in the District Team and many also going on to represent the Met West Region at States, and Queensland at Nationals. At Regionals, Centenary SHS is the top performing state high school!
School team selection for districts is based upon the latest performances prior to nominations being due (Week 10). As such, a top two finish at the school carnival does not necessarily guarantee a position, and all students are encouraged to maintain training to maximise performances. Students will have available a challenge process to vie for final team positions.

Training Information
Centenary SHS provides comprehensive training opportunities to students to enhance their performance. Students who regularly attend trainings have proven to be more successful in attaining consistent PBs and success in the representative pathways. All students are welcome!
We are already a number of weeks into our training program, and we have on board the following coaches:
- Des Davis – Australian Throws Coach
- Kelly Heintze – previous national jumper and hurdler and Centenary SHS teacher
- Arthur Shera – Level 3 Track Coach and former Centenary SHS student
This year we also welcome a new Centenary SHS staff member, Ms Stolberg, who personally has been a national level athlete in throws who will add more expertise to the program.
Please let Richard Haines (rhain0@eq.edu.au) know if you have any questions.
Intermediate Schools Cup Volleyball
Across three days of intense competition with over 315 teams from all over Queensland, our Centenary SHS teams competed at the State Championships. Our four teams did AMAZINGLY well, especially when coming up against volleyball excellence schools and many private schools with endless budgets. The highlight must be the Year 9 Boys team, coached by Josh Politi (former student) and Nick Bray (teacher) who won GOLD in Division 1, beating Brisbane Grammar in the final. What an incredible achievement. Here are the final results:
- Year 10 Girls (Honours) – 8th – 8th out of 107 teams
- Year 10 Boys (Div 1) – 8th – 20th out of 85 teams
- Year 9 Girls (Div 2) – 4th – 31st out of 72 teams
- Year 9 Boys (Div 1) – 1st – 12th out of 52 teams

Netball Success
Centenary SHS competed in the annual Vicki Wilson Championships for our district. Each year we come up against strong competition, battling schools of excellence and private schools. 2025 was our 5th year in the competition and our most successful one yet.
This year, Centenary SHS made it into the grand final for the Open Boys, going down narrowly to Glenala SHS in the final. Our Open Girls unfortunately had a tough run and finished the day with a mixture of wins and losses. The Junior Girls Team triumphed at the Met West preliminary trials, securing their spot in the prestigious Vicki Wilson Final Series at Nissan Arena this August. This marks the first time Centenary SHS has qualified for this elite competition, where our girls will compete against the best netball schools in Queensland.
A massive well done and best of luck to all our students for their hard work and incredible performances!

SSNL Round 3 competition – Centenary SHS VS Albany Creek SHS
In Round 3 of the SSNL competition at Albany Creek SHS, there were no Years 7 and 8 games scheduled, and unfortunately, we had to forfeit our Opens match.
However, our strong and committed Years 9 and 10 team stepped up and represented the school with pride. The girls played an outstanding game, defeating Albany Creek SHS with an impressive score of 37 – 24. A huge thank you to the families who generously assisted with transport - your support is greatly appreciated!

Gymnastics
A huge congratulations to Year 12 student Olivia, who, continuing her success from earlier in the year in the USA, has just competed at the Senior State Titles, achieving a clean sweep across all apparatus – vault, bars, beam and floor, to be named State Champion. She now goes on to represent Queensland at the Australian Championships!

Cutting-Edge Tools for Student Success
We continue to expand the breadth of cutting-edge tools that students can access to boost their subject knowledge and technical skills. Here are just a few highlights:
- JSTOR Databases: JSTOR gives students access to world-class research articles across all disciplines. Through this new subscription, students are learning to improve their research and writing skills.

- Atomi: Atomi is the personalised learning platform that allows students to learn key concepts at their own pace. Senior students have already answered 83,000 questions this year and completed 10,000 lessons. Now, junior students also have access to Atomi for arts learning.

- Adobe Express and Firefly: These tools allow students to create amazing graphic designs and experiment with AI image generation in a safe and supported environment.

- ClickView: ClickView gives students access to a vast repository of subject-aligned videos that they can use at school or at home.

We will continue to provide students with excellent access to technology, preparing them for life beyond school.

ARTS
We hope you enjoy reading about our Arts celebrations, curriculum and student opportunities from Term 2. Happy holidays!
For the month of June, the Centenary Arts P&C Subcommittee is one of the Local Matters Jars at Grill’d Mount Ommaney. Every time you eat there, you get a token and if we get the most tokens for the month, we get a $300 donation. There’s still time to get a few more burgers and support our Arts Faculty!

Student Success
Congratulations to the Senior Choir, who were awarded Platinum, and the Junior Choir, who were awarded Gold, at the recent Fanfare heats, held at Centenary SHS. Choral Fanfare is a biennial festival, where students get to enjoy and listen to other choirs, receive feedback from an experienced adjudicator, and receive an award based on a set of criteria (not compared to other choirs). We are so proud of our choirs who sang beautifully and presented polished performances that impressed our audience, including local primary school families.

METRO FINALISTS! Following the heats, the Senior Choir were selected as finalists! We were one of only six choirs to perform at the Metro South Regional Heats, held in Week 10. The Metro South region encompasses all schools south of the river across Brisbane, so this really is an outstanding achievement. Whilst our road ended at the metro finals, we are exceptionally proud of how our students performed. Congratulations to Mr Clifford, Ms Stenlake and the Senior Choir.

Prior to Fanfare, both Choirs competed at the Queensland Youth Music Awards. Both the Junior and Senior Choirs received silver awards, but more importantly, they were provided with valuable feedback to improve our performances!

Our Dance Troupes recently competed at the Brisbane Performing Arts Challenge. Congratulations to all of our dancers and their coaches Caitlin, Holly, Maddy, Delaney and Sierra, as well as our staff Mr Holmes and Ms Milford, for their preparation of the troupes.
Three of our troupes finished with prizes! Congratulations to:
- Lyrical B - 3rd place
- Lyrical A - Very Highly Commended
- Hip Hop Student Choreography - Very Highly Commended
The dance troupes now prepare for their next competition, Dance Life Unite, in July.

During the term, we received our confirmed results for Year 12 General subjects IA1. Task 1 across The Arts varies: Music, Music Extension, Dance and Drama students all do a performance-based task worth 20%, whilst film students complete a 15% case study investigation and Art students complete a 15% inquiry process. To achieve 100% on this task requires creative thinking, dedication, rehearsal and teamwork (for those who work in a group). We are thrilled to announce that we had thirty-seven students achieve the perfect score on their first task, with five students achieving two 100% results! It was so lovely to celebrate in CPAC with all of the students and their teachers! Congratulations to all of the students and staff for your outstanding achievement.

We are proud to announce that five of our exceptional Year 11 Visual Art and Visual Arts in Practice students have been selected to represent our school in the prestigious Brisbane Portrait Prize: Next Gen competition. The Next Gen competition shines a spotlight on emerging talent and invites students to explore portraiture in ways that reflect their personal voice, technical development, and contemporary perspective. Each of our selected students has produced a powerful and thought-provoking portrait that captures not only the likeness but the essence of their chosen subject. We wish them every success as their portraits are exhibited alongside other talented young artists from across the state. Congratulations to our artists!

We’re delighted to share that three of our talented students have been selected to take part in the Australian Honours Ensemble Program (AHEP) – the most prestigious excellence program for young musicians offered by the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University.
In 2025, 695 auditions were received, and we’re proud to announce that Eva (Year 11 – Voice), Ava (Year 12 – French Horn), and Liam (Year 12 – Tenor Saxophone, Big Band) have earned their place in this highly competitive program.
AHEP takes place in early October and we look forward to finding out what our senior musicians can share when they return to school in Term 4!

The State Honours Program, also offered by the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University, have selected students for their Queensland program. A record fifty-five students across Years 9 – 12 from Centenary SHS have been chosen to participate in this event! We are excited for this opportunity to extend our musicians and the new learnings they bring back with them to school.
This week, Ava (Year 12 – French horn) and Liam (Year 12 – tenor saxophone), are attending MOST – the Creative Generation Excellence Awards in Instrumental Music.

Wizard of Oz News
Things are really starting to ramp up with preparation for our biennial musical! The cast and band are rehearsing weekly, with final blocking and stage placements happening now. We hope to go to holidays with the whole show set! The crew have been learning all aspects of backstage, from sound and lighting, to stage management. We are very grateful to Mr Homer who has been building the sets for months – and they look amazing! We are also appreciative of the time Miss Erin has spent painting the sets, they are stunning and will take you right into Emerald City along the yellow brick road! Mr Duncan and his STEP class have also been busy painting sets and making props – without so many people helping, the show wouldn’t be able to go on. We look forward to sharing some images of our new sets and props next term. Thank you to everyone for their contributions!
ANNOUCEMENT – Wizard of Oz tickets will go on sale on July 28 (via TryBooking), just 6 weeks before the show. If it’s anything like last time, they’ll sell out fast, so make sure you’ve got the date in your diaries! There are four shows across September 5th and September 6th!
Instrumental Music News
Term 2 has been a busy term! Our major concert, ‘Around the World in 80 Bars’, was a huge success, with our 8 large ensembles all taking to the stage on the one night. We have appreciated the many emails and comments about how wonderful the students performed – we are so proud of them! A huge thank you to all of our Instrumental Music teachers/conductors on the evening – without their dedication, effort and hard work every week, nights like this wouldn’t be possible. We are very lucky to have such a great team – thank you to Mrs Harvey, Mr Hoey, Mr Lougheed, Mr Johnstone and Mr Clifford. Another thanks to our Music teachers for their help and support on the day and night of the concert, Ms Scalia, Ms Stenlake and Mr Watkins.

Term 2 has finished the way it started, with a number of school and community performances. The Choirs competed at the Queensland Youth Music Awards and the Stage Band received outstanding feedback following their performance at the Brisbane Youth Jazz Festival. We also started our ‘Livening Up The Library’ series, with the Chamber Strings performing for family and friends. The Woodwind Ensembles performed to huge crowds on a sunny day at the Darra Festival.
We also (finally!) got to hold our Junior Music Camp. Over 110 students spent three days together, putting the final touches on concert repertoire and learning new music. The activities on the final day saw our students demonstrating their character strengths – bravery, leadership and persistence, to name a few!

We look forward to more performances in Term 3 and the Date claimer is attached below for your information.

The Arts Subcommittee of the P&C would like to acknowledge and thank the following people and businesses, for their generous donations of prizes to the Arts Faculty for our recent events.

BUSINESS TECHNOLOGY
From Year 10 student Kasper
On the 6th of June, I, along with 3 other students competed in the QUT Accounting Challenge. My highlight of the day was listening to the interesting speeches people had to make on how they run their business and how it looks when you’re not in a classroom. The QUT Accounting Competition is a challenge where we had to analyse a case study and provide recommendations and ideas on someone who was interested in taking over the business of her father. Me and my group learned many things about public speaking, running a business and how accounting is a part of every business.

HUMANITIES
Years 8 and 9 Chinese Language Excursion
On Thursday 5th June, Years 8 and 9 Chinese language students participated in an immersive cultural excursion designed to enrich their understanding of Chinese traditions and practices beyond the classroom, whilst also seeking peace and tranquillity. The day was filled with a variety of enriching experiences, offering students a unique window into aspects of Chinese culture, philosophy, and daily life.
Students began their day at a local Buddhist temple, the Chung Tian Temple, where they participated in a guided meditation session, learning about mindfulness and the importance of inner peace in traditional Chinese philosophy. The calm and respectful behaviour of our students was noted and praised by the temple staff and Buddhist monks, who were deeply impressed by their attentiveness and thoughtful engagement.
Following meditation, students were introduced to the graceful art of Tai Chi, led by a skilled instructor. Despite many trying the movements for the first time, students embraced the challenge with enthusiasm, demonstrating excellent focus and cooperation.
The cultural journey continued with a Chinese calligraphy workshop, where students practiced writing traditional characters with brush and ink. This hands-on activity allowed them to explore the artistic side of the language while gaining a deeper appreciation for its complexity and beauty.
A major highlight of the day was a Yum Cha lunch, where students sampled a variety of traditional dishes in a shared dining experience.
The final part of the day allowed for a short period of shopping time in a local Chinese cultural precinct, where students had the opportunity to explore and purchase small items or snacks, even attempting to use their language skills in a fun and practical context.
Throughout the day, our students represented the school with pride and maturity. Numerous external providers, including temple staff and hospitality personnel, commented on the students’ excellent conduct, enthusiasm, and respect for cultural practices. Their positive attitudes and willingness to engage in every activity made a lasting impression.

SCIENCE
This term, students in the Science Faculty have been engaged in a variety of enriching and hands-on learning experiences. From modelling the solar system to understanding the human body, constructing scientific arguments, and exploring our planet and beyond, science at Centenary SHS continues to inspire curiosity and critical thinking.
Year 7: Modelling the Universe
Our Year 7 students have been investigating scientific models of the solar system, exploring how our understanding of the universe has evolved over time. Students have compared a variety of different models, critiqued their strengths and limitations, and used modern digital tools to visualise planetary motion.
Coming up in Week 2 Term 3, all Year 7 Science classes will be attending an excursion to Nudgee Beach Environmental Education Centre for their Biology unit. Consent and payments for this excursion are due on 11/07/2025. Please check emails (including junk folder) for parent/carer letter and invoice sent on 04/06/2025.
Year 7: eXcel Incursions
As part of the Year 7 Earth and Space unit, the eXcel class have entered the Wonder of Science Challenge Competition. Students have been investigating inquiry questions such as “What if the Earth had two moons?” and “What if the Moon was actually made of cheese?”. Students have presented their findings to UQ Young Science Ambassadors and will be attending a conference at UQ later this year.

Year 8: Arguing Like a Scientist
Our Year 8 students are learning the essential skill of constructing scientific arguments based on evidence. Through topics such as tectonic plate movement and earthquakes, students are being challenged to evaluate claims with scientific evidence and logical reasoning. Students have certainly taken their argumentative skills to a whole new level!
Year 9: Ecology and Body Systems
In Year 9, students have engaged in two major units of Biology: Ecosystems and Body Systems. During their study of ecosystems, our Year 9 Science students had a wonderful day at Nudgee Beach, where they participated in a range of activities including yabby pumping and dragnet fishing.

YEAR 12 REPORT
The end of Term 2 marks several milestones for the Year 12 cohort. Students have all completed Unit 3 of their senior subjects, and they are now only one semester away from their schooling journey coming to an end. The overall results and effort that have come through from this cohort has been outstanding, and I am thrilled to share some of these with you later in this article.
HG in Focus
Our extended HG time this term has been a little disjointed with a number of public holidays and other events. We did however spend some time looking at some very important issues, including self-determination and motivation, power dynamics and recognising abuse and seeking help in relationships, and the cost of cars. When we return from the winter break, our first extended lesson on the Monday will be viewing a performance by Brainstorm Productions called Wired. This production deals with issues around bullying, online safety and school stressors. More information about this will be emailed home.
Events
We had two big events take place in the last month: the State of Origin Night and the Senior Sleepout.
The State of Origin Night was a great evening, with the Year 12 Council selling some great origin-themed treats to raise money for the Year 12 Break Room, even if Queensland lost. Thank you to the wonderful teachers who came along to assist on the night.
The revived Senior Sleepout saw almost 200 students spend a night in CPAC and the Sports Hall playing games, watching movies, enjoying sports, doing craft and a little bit of sleeping. It was an absolutely cracker of a night, and again I want to thank the amazing teachers who volunteered their time to make this possible for the students.

Students in Focus
As mentioned at the start of the article, we have had some amazing student successes recently to celebrate.
Firstly, we had our students who received straight A’s on their Term 1 reports – an outstanding result!

Next were our Academic achievement recipients who received all A’s and one B in their subjects.

And of course, while grades are wonderful to celebrate, we also like to celebrate those students who demonstrate outstanding character as students, and have received an A from all of their teachers for Effort and Behaviour.

In addition to all of these results, our IA1 confirmation results were returned with 149 pieces of year 12 assessment being confirmed at 100%. This is an absolutely fabulous result! You can see more on our Facebook page!
Outside of the academic arena we have had some other brilliant achievements this month.
Congratulations to Liam for receiving a call up to participate in the Creative Generations Musically Outstanding Students Program (MOST) on Tenor Saxophone. This is an honour reserved for only 80 students across the state!

Olivia continues her amazing achievements as a gymnast at the Senior State Titles, achieving a clean sweep across all apparatus – vault, bars, beam, floor, to be named State Champion. She now goes on to represent Queensland at the Australian Championships!

Congratulations to Maddie and Delaney for their choreography, receiving a Very Highly Commended at the BPAC dance competition in the Hip Hop section!
Looking forward to an amazing second half of the year!

YEAR 11 REPORT
As we come to the end of Term 2, it’s a great time to reflect on the achievements and events that have made this term a memorable one for our Year 11 students.
We were proud to recognise students who achieved all A grades, as well as those who earned all A's and one B—a fantastic academic achievement. In addition, sixty students were acknowledged for demonstrating excellent effort and behaviour in all classes. Your commitment and positive attitude are truly commendable—well done!
This term, we also welcomed a guest speaker from the Paraplegic Benefit Fund (PBF), who delivered a powerful presentation on driver safety and awareness. As many students begin learning to drive, the session served as a timely and impactful reminder of the importance of being responsible and alert behind the wheel.
We’ve also seen incredible success from our Year 11 students across all areas of school life. From strong performances in debating, to captivating displays in dance and music, and outstanding results in sports, our students have continued to showcase their diverse talents. Whether on the field, on the stage, in the classroom, or in competition, students have stepped up and shown resilience, passion, and excellence.
Excitement is building as Year 11 students begin the process of selecting their Year 12 jerseys. This is an important milestone and a sign that the final year of schooling is just around the corner. In preparation for another exciting event, Semi-Formal consent forms have been sent out and are due by the end of the term to confirm final numbers. This can be done through the QParents platform. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Ms Tesch at ktesc0@eq.edu.au.
We wish all our students and families a safe, restful, and well-earned break. We look forward to seeing you in Term 3 – refreshed and ready for the challenges ahead!

YEAR 9 REPORT
Term 2 Reflections
As we approach the end of Term 2, it’s a great opportunity to reflect on the progress our Year 9 students have made in their career exploration journey. Building on the foundation laid earlier in the term with resume writing and initial career profiling activities, students have now begun actively researching potential occupations and their future pathways. This process has been supported by engaging with QTAC, TAFE Queensland, and Australian Apprenticeships, helping students gain valuable insights into post-school pathways and entry requirements. Through this hands-on exploration, students are developing a clearer understanding of how their current academic choices connect with their future goals—setting them up to make more informed decisions as they move into their senior years.
Looking Ahead to Term 3
Term 3 is shaping up to be an exciting one for our Year 9 cohort. In Weeks 1 and 2, students will take part in two impactful theatre-in-education experiences during Lesson 3 on Mondays. Week 1 – Smashed explores underage drinking, peer pressure, online behaviour, and consent through a powerful performance and interactive workshop that encourages reflection on real-life consequences. Week 2 – Wired presents the emotional journeys of two students facing mental health challenges, promoting empathy and positive choices as the audience helps guide their stories
One of the biggest highlights will be our Team Building Day. While we’re keeping the details under wraps for now, I can confidently say it’s shaping up to be a standout moment of the year. Thank you to the families who have already returned permission forms—almost two thirds of the cohort are currently involved, and we’re hopeful we can make this a whole-grade experience. We don’t want any student to miss out on what promises to be a memorable day.
Thank You!
Congratulations to our students for their hard work and the strong results shown in Term 1 reports. Ten students received straight A’s across all curriculum areas, and many others were recognised for excellent effort and behaviour. These achievements are a testament to their commitment and the support they receive at home.
As a Year 9 team, we like to extend our sincere thanks to all parents and carers for continuing to support your students’s learning and wellbeing. Myself, Ms McKay (DP), and Sandi (GO) are so grateful for the partnership we share with our families. Year 9 can be a time of challenge and change, but it’s also a time of tremendous growth – and we’re loving watching our students rise to the occasion.

YEAR 8 REPORT
From Dr Brooke Davis (Year Coordinator) and Ms Brooke Davis (Deputy Principal)
And just like that, Term 2 is coming to an end. It isn’t always easy to stay motivated and manage competing priorities, so well done to all students for navigating a busy assessment period with focus and determination. As we reflect upon the term, a standout event this term was our Team Building Day, led by the dynamic team from YLead. This full-day program is designed to foster leadership, teamwork, and a stronger sense of community among our Year 8 cohort. We look forward to seeing students step out of their comfort zones, build new connections, and grow in confidence.
Looking ahead, our Home Group focus shifts to the Health element of the PERMAH wellbeing framework. Throughout the term, students will explore strategies for looking after their physical and mental wellbeing – from sleep and nutrition to mindfulness. The goal is to help students build habits that support a balanced and healthy lifestyle, both at school and beyond.
And finally, we’d like to wish all our Year 8 students and their families a safe, restful, and enjoyable June/July holiday. We look forward to seeing everyone recharged and ready for the second half of the year!

YEAR 7 REPORT
A Fantastic Start to High School Life!
As we reach the midway point of the school year, it's the perfect time to reflect on the remarkable journey our Year 7 students have taken in their first year of high school. From day one, they have embraced the challenges and opportunities of high school learning with positivity, courage, and an eagerness to grow. This has aligned with our school moral purpose of having students create a strong sense of belonging here at school as well as helping them to flourish in whatever endeavours and interests they are developing.
Over the past two terms, our Year 7 cohort has shown fantastic progress academically, socially, and emotionally. They've demonstrated resilience in adapting to new routines, independence in managing a busy timetable, and maturity in building new friendships and support networks. Whether in the classroom, on the sports field, or in co-curricular activities, Year 7 students have truly made their mark.
We’re also proud to have launched our Aspiring Leaders Program as part of the Student Forum, a unique opportunity for students to begin exploring what it means to lead. This initiative is designed to identify and support emerging student leaders who are ready to take-action, inspire their peers, and contribute positively to our school community. The second half of the year will see these young leaders stepping up and putting their ideas and skills into action: driving initiatives, promoting positivity and inclusion, and setting an example for others to follow.
As we look ahead to the rest of the year, our focus will be on building on the strong foundation we’ve laid. With a continued emphasis on academic effort, social responsibility, and emotional wellbeing, we are confident that Terms 3 and 4 will be even more rewarding. We can’t wait to see our students continue to grow stronger, more confident, and more connected as they smash out new goals and celebrate more successes together. We are always looking for more reasons to celebrate student success as well so please continue to keep us up to date with any achievements from your student/s.
Well done to our young people! We are proud of everything achieved so far and even more excited about what’s to come!
